Behaviour Support
Our mission is to empower children and the village that supports them, and behaviour services can be an important component of this empowerment. Moving Mountains Village offers two variations on behaviour services: Positive Behaviour Support (by collaborating with our friends at To the Moon and Back- more on this under Positive Behaviour Support) and Behaviour Intervention. Our team can use the information on your intake form to help you select the most appropriate service for your child and family.
Our Behaviour Approach
-
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is an evidence-based approach within Applied Behaviour Analysis focusing on a person-centred way to understand and respond to behaviour. PBS focuses on;
· Preventing behaviours of concern
· Teaching new skills
· Improving quality of life
Positive Behaviour Support involves completing a comprehensive assessment process to understand the behaviours of concern and all the factors contributing to these. This information is then used to create a comprehensive behaviour support plan, covering how to prevent and respond to behaviours of concern, including the skills to develop in order to increase quality of life and the long-term reduction of behaviours of concern. Children are then assisted to learn these skills, and caregivers, educators, support workers and other individuals in the child’s life are supported to implement the behaviour support plan in daily environments.
This is the recommended approach to behaviours of concern from the NDIS. To reduce confusion for participants, the NDIS has limited the provision of Positive Behaviour Support (also referred to as Specialist Behaviour Support in the NDIS) to NDIS participants, to practitioners and providers registered to provide these services with the NDIS.
We are big believers in the efficacy of Positive Behaviour Support, and so are starting the (long) process of becoming registered to provide Positive Behaviour Support under the NDIS. Once we have all the components ready, wait times are estimated around 12 – 18 months. In the meantime, we have collaborated with registered PBS provider, To the Moon and Back Interventions, to provide Positive Behaviour Support. We have known To the Moon and Back for years and are grateful to them for supporting us on this journey.

Our behaviour services are designed to build children’s skills, confidence, and participation in everyday life. We understand that every child and family is unique, so choosing the right approach matters.
Our therapists take a compassionate, family-centred approach. We focus on supporting children to thrive by developing meaningful skills, enhancing wellbeing, and fostering positive behaviours, whilst gently reducing behaviours of concern. Our goal is to work alongside families to create supportive strategies that make everyday moments smoother and more enjoyable.
What areas do we support?
Engagement
We support children to build the skills they need to engage in daily routines, learning tasks, and play; fostering independence and joy. We take care to recognise and honour each child’s strengths and interests along the way.
Transitioning
We help children develop the skills needed to move between tasks and environments at a pace that feels manageable. This includes supporting them to cope with change in a way that respects their individual needs.
Relinquishing
Finishing up something enjoyable, like a favourite game when it’s time to go to bed, can be tricky. We support children with strategies that help them pause or transition, using preparation, predictability, and gentle transitions to reduce distress and build confidence.
Collaboration
We work with children, families, and educators to strengthen communication and teamwork. This helps everyone feel heard and supported as they work together toward shared goals.
Self Advocacy
Children are supported to recognise and express their needs; like asking for help or requesting a break, so they can feel empowered and understood in all kinds of settings.
Tolerance
We help children build resilience by learning how to manage the small bumps and surprises of daily life. This includes growing their emotional regulation and coping skills across a range of situations.
